Experience in the Service Transition Process and the Use of Personal Assistance Services for the Elderly with Disabilities

Abstract
This study is conducted for the purpose of analyzing the experience of using personal assistance services(PAS) for the elderly with disabilities and of the service transit process. Hence, in-depth interviews are conducted with 8 elderly people with disabilities to identify the experience of PAS using, of rating the eligibility of long-term care, and of living with disabilities. The results are as follows. First, the topic regarding the use of PAS is ¡¯to have the initiative in life¡¯, are divided into ¨çthe realization of deinstitutionalization and independence; ¨è the joy of living in the community; and ¨é restoration of courage and hope to live. Second, the experience of rating of long-term care service was derived as ¡¯the precarious daily life¡¯, which leads to ¨ç the depression and anger; ¨è confined in a house; ¨é increasing burden; ¨ê the threatened physical condition and dignity. Third, the experience concerning the life of the elderly with disabilities is summarizes. In other words, ¡®living as the healthy elderly but with disabilities while maintaining daily life¡¯. It implies ¨ç the healthy elderly with disabilities; ¨è the provision of adequate benefit. Based on the afforementioned, discussions on ways to alter PAS for the disabled are suggested.
